Just what is a Corporate web site?  The simplest definition for this term is:
A web site that only your employees have access to.
Here's another way of looking at it:
Company XYZ is a real estate company that owns and manages rental properties all over the East Coast. To advertise its various services and properties, the company has a web site that is available to anyone in the world with an Internet connection; this is what's called a Public web site.
Since apartments become vacant on a regular basis and lease fees can occasionally change, XYZ decided to have a secure corporate web site built that would enable them to administer their public web site (update vacancy listings, change lease fees, etc.) without any computer programming knowledge whatsoever.
In addition to being able to maintain its public web site, XYZ needed a way to keep the corporate office and regional sales managers abreast of any vacancies and/or occupancies that occurred each day. For this, functionality was added to the corporate web site that enabled employees to fill out various vacancy and occupancy forms from anywhere in the country. All submissions would be stored in a database, which would provide built-in record keeping and easy access to all managers (regardless of location). Additionally, each entry would automatically send an email to XYZ employees that would need to know about the information. With the web site complete, XYZ lived happily ever after.
So how can a corporate web site add value to your business?   Frankly, it may or may not be the solution to your company's needs.  But, here are a few things to think about:
As we move further into the information age, more and more companies are recognizing the advantages of going "paperless." Repetitive, labor-wasting activity is being replaced by automation at a rapid pace--and for good reason. Think about the everyday tasks that take place in your business. How readily accessible are your records to the various employees that require them in order to do their jobs? What routine, time consuming tasks are your employees performing that could be removed if only company data was available in a central location for those who need it? Naturally, the removal of mundane activity from your employees' workflow will provide them with more time to hone their skills and ultimately provide better customer service.
